Special Programs available for
SUMMER RIDING 2010
AT FOLLY FARM

Folly Farm is a first-rate equestrian center and offers year-round weekly lessons, a Show Program and special summer riding programs; a Horse Lover's Program  for older riders and an afternoon Tiny Trotters program for younger riders. These programs offer the participant an exciting time of horse-related fun and education. Emphasis is placed on a safe and enjoyable learning environment with school horses to suit a variety of riding abilities.

The Horse Lovers and Tiny Trotters programs should be registered for as soon as possible, lessons may be registered for in May.

HORSE LOVER'S PROGRAM runs Monday - Friday, 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM for all level of riders, ages 7 - 15.  This is a horse intense experience!  We have an excellent, experienced staff to work with a small number of students and provide a wonderful learning environment.  We emphasize maximum time with the horse with two rides a day; a formal lesson and a fun ride.  Mounted exercises and games are used to in crease the rider's strength, balance, flexibility and to improve overall horsemanship.  Other activities include daily barn chores, tack cleaning, bathing, clipping, leg wrapping, and basic health and anatomy discussions. We pack it all in ! Enrollment limited to 12. The cost is $400 for the first week.  Additional week(s) for only $350.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND - Extend your Friday until 3:30! Have a pizza lunch and then another riding activity.  Only $40 extra!

TINY TROTTER'S PROGRAM runs Monday through Thursday 1:00-2:30 PM for riders 4 - 6. This program is designed for the younger rider with little or no riding experience*. Riders generally have their own assistant. They learn basic horsemanship such as grooming and tacking up.  They begin to ride on a lead line and progress through the week at their own pace.  After the lessons riders bathe and care for their horse. Enrollment is limited to 4. Cost is $185.
* For younger riders with more experience, private lessons may be advisable.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING?
Appropriate attire is required for both programs.
PANTS: must be long - no Capri length or shorts.  Loose fitting pants (like
sweats or baggy jeans) tend to cause rubs.
SHIRT: No tank tops. The shirt should protect the shoulders and be long
            enough to tuck into pants.
SHOES: sturdy, hard soled shoe or boot with a little heel.  No sneakers.
Boots (up to size 7) may be rented weekly for $15
HAIR: Remember you will wear a helmet, so no fancy braids or high ponytails.
Also, hair must be pulled back from the face.  It is awkward to
clean  hooves and do chores with hair in your eyes!
HELMET: Riding helmets only.  No bike helmets.  We have a selection
of riding helmets for use at no additional charge, but we encourage
                riders to provide their own.
Riders should bring water, and wear sunscreen and bug repellent.   Horse Lover Program riders should also bring a snack (and additional drink if desired).
