*we are especially seeking riders
for these levels. You must have had at least one year but no more than 4
years of instruction and not have jumped 2 in any show.
These are competitive
teams requiring a significant commitment of time and energy! You should be
ready to take your riding seriously and strive for improvement. This year,
in addition to High Point and Reserve High Point awards at many shows,
many individuals and both our Teams qualified for Regionals. Several
individuals, as well as our Middle School Team, advanced to Zones. We are looking forward to building on that success
next year.
To join the team you have to be in grades 6 through
12 and capable of cantering in a group on a new horse. You need not have
shown before. Riders are responsible for their own transportation to and
from shows and all show fees. Classes were $35 each last year (I dont
know if they will increase) and training is $50/day. All Team riders must
also become members of the IEA. (Interscholastic Equestrian Association)
Membership forms and waivers may be downloaded from the
website www.rideiea.com.
You will need both forms.
They are normally available in early
July.
Please complete and sign in all the right places and
bring the forms, with the $45 membership fee, to the farm office. We
will try to get as many applications as we can to IEA by mid-August, so we
can get to some of the early Fall shows
New riders should confer with a coach and you will be
placed in the lowest appropriate level based on your riding and showing
experience. All judging is based on Hunt Seat Equitation and you may find
out more in the rules section on the web site www.rideiea.com. Riders with
their own horses schedule their own lessons; riders without a horse must
take a minimum of 2 lessons per week. One lesson is a required team
practice every Monday 4:00-6:00pm. The second lesson is a regular group or
private lesson taken Tuesday through Friday. Use the lesson registration
form to register for both lessons.
The teams compete in shows throughout the season
(September through April) with riders earning points as a team and as
individuals to qualify for Regional, Zone and National Final competitions.
Horses are provided by the host team and assigned by random draw. Shows
are on weekends and may be anywhere in our Zone (New England), though we
try to stay within a 1 ½ - 2
hour driving radius. We plan the schedule as we get the show dates. We
will also be hosting a Middle and High School Show. All Team members
are required to help at any show we host, for the whole day.
The teams may attend any number of shows but each individual rider may
only compete in five shows per season, but we require that Team members
compete in a minimum of 3 shows. Some shows are for both High School and
Middle School teams and
others are separate. A typical show starts at 8:00am with riders arriving
earlier to watch horses and walk courses. A single team show may be over
in 4 5 hours but a show including both teams can run until 5pm or
later. EVERY
COMPETING RIDER MUST REMAIN AT THE SHOW UNTIL THE LAST RIDER ON THEIR TEAM
HAS FINISHED.
(Parents
are not required to stay. Carpooling can be arranged)
Riders must have complete and appropriate show
attire. Please check with the coaches before buying anything if you are
unfamiliar with showing - there are many subtle variations in style and
color for different types of competition.
