Lesson Program
New Riding Lesson Program
Now 7 days a week!

We are excited to offer new riding opportunities 7 days a week, beginning with the Winter Session of 2011-2012. Our goal is to develop strong confident riders who also have good horsemanship skills. Lessons, workshops and competitions will be utilized to help accomplish that goal.
We have restructured the riding lesson groups to follow grade and showing levels. This will allow for a more systematic presentation of skills and practice exercises to a group with more similar needs and goals. The groups will be Tiny Trotter, Walk Trot, Short Stirrup, IEA, non-IEA and Adult. Group sizes are limited but vary by skill. More on the groups below.

Once-a-week riding can hardly satisfy the cravings of a horse-crazy child or teach them all the "non-riding stuff" (horsemanship) so we encourage our junior riders, except Tiny Trotters, to join our Ponypalooza Club or IEA Team.

The Ponypalooza Club is for those ages 6 - 12 or in 1st - 5th grade. Members of ponypalooza will ride twice weekly at a discounted rate, attend regular Ponypalooza workshops at no charge (special events may require a fee) and have priority in lesson scheduling and showing in regular shows.

The IEA Team is for riders in 6th - 12th grade. Practices are twice weekly with the Team coach. More information about our Team is available on our IEA page.

We do expect club and team members to show at our home shows. Riders may earn points to qualify for our annual Fall Classic and other year-end awards. Show clothes are necessary and show fees will apply.

Riders may still ride once weekly in the appropriate group, where space is available. (Club riders will have priority in scheduling) They are welcome at regular Ponypalooza events for a small fee ($5), and may compete in shows if horses are available.

Beginner riders will start in beginner group lessons until they can join the appropriate regular group. They may take lessons once or twice weekly.

For adults there are two lessons, one novice and one advanced. Adults interested in more riding and competition should speak with an instructor. Adults will also be welcome at the Ponypalooza events.

Private lessons are also offered but time and space constraints limit their availability. Please talk with an instructor if interested.

RIDING GROUPS

New riders who are unsure if they are ready for the appropriate group may take an introductory lesson (private) for evaluation.

Tiny Trotter Group - age 4 to 1st grade. Lessons are weekly. Riders will start on a leadline with an assistant and progress toward
independence. Riders compete in the Leadline division; some advanced Tiny Trotters may do Walk-Trot.

Walk Trot Group - 1st and 2nd grade. Riders should be able to post. They will have an assistant as necessary until they are
capable of independent riding. Riders will progress toward canter and small jumps. Riders show in the
                              Leadline or Walk-Trot divisions.

Short Stirrup Group - 3rd through 5th grade. Riders should have good walk trot basics. They will work on strengthening their
position, especially in canter and over small jumps. Riders show in appropriate divisions.

Non-IEA Group - 6th - 12th grade. For experienced riders who do not join the IEA. Priority is given to our Team so lesson
                             times are limited.
