The Folly High School IEA Team finished 3rd as a team at the 2011 National Finals!
Folly Farm has been a member of the IEA (Interscholastic Equestrian Association) since 2007 and has both Middle and High School Teams for riders in grades 6 - 12.
IEA teams go to shows at other facilities and ride horses drawn randomly. Riders are judged on their equitation both on the flat and over fences in divisions ranging from Beginner (flat only) through Open. At each show Teams choose one rider per division to be their point rider; all other team riders are earning points individually and also preventing riders from other teams from earning points. Teams and individuals are aiming to qualify for the post-season in Regional, Zone and National competition. Folly consistently qualifies teams and riders for the post-season and has taken individuals and the High School Team to National Finals.
The IEA is modeled after the IHSA (Intercollegiate Horse Show Association) which boasts 370+ member colleges and universities. Many college coaches attend the IEA Nationals and are interested in riders of all experience levels for their teams.

Team Membership is open to all riders at Folly who are in grades 6 - 12. Riders who lease or own their own horse will schedule their lessons independently with the Folly trainers. Riders who do not own a horse must attend team practice - please refer to the schedule for practices times - riders must attend twice weekly. Cost is $900 per session.
All team riders must join the IEA. Membership in the past has been $45 annually and riders must join by mid November in order to compete in the current competition season. Riders are placed by coaches in the lowest appropriate level based on riding and showing experience.
Competition Information: Riders must own appropriate show attire. (If you have limited show experience then please speak with a coach before buying anything). Regular shows are held from September through February. Regional, Zone and National Final competitions are held in March and April. Shows are on weekends and may be anywhere in our region (Western CT), or adjacent regions in CT or southern Mass. Riders are responsible for their own transportation to and from shows. Additional Show Fees: Classes are $35 each and training is $50/day per show.
Teams may attend any number of shows but each individual rider may only compete in five shows per season. Shows may be High School only, Middle School only or both. We will be hosting a Middle and High School Show on Nov 13, 2011. Folly is also hosting Regional Finals on March 18, 2012. Shows may start as early as 8am with riders arriving earlier to watch horses and walk courses. Shows may last from 5 to 10 hours and everyone on the team must remain until the last rider has competed.
