Fall 2008

Summer is coming to an end and we would like to thank everyone for a fun and very successful show season.  The fall brings busy schedules for all of us so it is time to start planning accordingly.   This is a good time to get a lesson and training plan organized with your instructors so we can attempt to minimize ring congestion and maximize horse and rider potential.  It is also good to set up a meeting in the next couple weeks to discuss goals for the next six months; we want everyone’s winter to be productive and fun.

Show Results

Folly riders had a very successful summer show season.  This year in Vermont our riders took home many Champions and Reserves and several blue ribbons.  Some of the highlights included Irene Peluso and Cavalier were Champions of the High Children’s Jumpers, Brittany Johnson and Blitz won the Large Junior Hunter Handy Class, Sue Peyton’s horse Jacob was Reserve Champion in the Baby Green Hunters, David Wilbur and Folly Farm’s Annie were Reserve Champions in the Level 5 Jumpers, Nina Tedesco and Maya won a Children’s Hunter Pony class and were 4th in the Children’s Hunter Classic, Catherine Ferri and Alex won the Restricted Children’s Hunter Under Saddle, Maura Zaldonis and Finn won the Mini Medal, Grace McCann and Sparky got top ribbons in the Small/Medium Children’s Ponies, Caroline Connal and Gala were Reserve Champions in the Novice Equitation, Jourdan Sloane and Colors were Champions of both the Limit Equitation and Modified Children’s Hunters, Lindsey Otis and Dudley were Champions of the Older Children’s Hunters and Reserve Champions of the Limit Equitation, Sara Bombara and Fival got ribbons in both the Modified Children’s Hunters and the Maiden Equitation, Jackie Tyson and Jacque were Champions of the Restricted Children’s Hunters, and Meghan Keegan and Gus got ribbons in both the Restricted Children’s Hunters and the Novice Equitation.

Also Folly riders were well represented at the 2008 CHJA Finals in Fairfield, CT.  We had Brittany Johnson qualify for the Masters Medal Final.  Irene Peluso, Catharine Maher, Lindsey Otis, and Maura Zaldonis qualified for the Junior Medal Final with Catharine finishing in 8th place out of 83 riders.  In the CHJA Children’s Medal, Folly had Caroline Connal, Jourdan  Sloane, Meghan Keegan, and Nina Tedesco all qualify for the Finals.  And finally in the Children’s Hunter Classic we had Irene and Havel, Nina and Maya, and Sara Dolan and Britt with Irene placing 8th and Sara finishing 10th.  Great job everyone on a great weekend!

At the Mystic Summer Festival Horse Show and CHSA Finals held September 4th–7th in Gales Ferry, CT Folly riders did extremely well.  Catharine Maher and Tego were Champions of the Junior Hunters, Catharine and Bear got ribbons in the Children/Adult Jumpers, Sara Dolan and Britt were Champions of the Children’s Hunter Ponies and won the Marshall & Sterling Children’s Hunter Classic, Irene Peluso and Cavalier won the Marshall & Sterling Children’s Jumper Classic, Irene and Havel won a Children’s Hunter Horse jumping class and David Wilbur and Annie were 6th in the $5,000 Mystic Mini Prix.  At the 2008 CHSA Finals, we had Tory Beckett and Max qualify for the Short Stirrup Hunter Finals.  Abhimenyu Natarajan and Bug, Sarah Bombara and Fival, and Jackie Tyson and Jacque all qualified for the Pre-Children’s Equitation Medal Final with Sarah finishing in 8th place.  Also Sarah, Jackie, and Aidan Lehrer and Smarty qualified for the Pre-Children’s Hunter Final with Sarah placing 9th and Aidan finishing 10th.  In the Children’s Equitation Medal Final, Folly was represented by Caroline Connal and Gala and Jourdan Sloane and Colors with Jourdan placing 4th and Caroline coming in 8th place.  Another successful show for Team Folly!

Congratulations to Nina Tedesco, Irene Peluso, and Brittany Johnson on a great show at the Marshall & Sterling Finals September 11th – 14th in Saugerties, NY.  These girls worked very hard all year to qualify for these finals.  Nina and Maya were 2nd in the Hudson Pony Eq, Irene and Havel were 8th in the M&S Children’s Medal Final, and Irene and Cavalier were 6th in the $2,500 Children’s Jumper and 12th in the $7,500 Children’s Jumper Classic.  Also Brittany has qualified for the USEF Medal finals this October in Harrisburg, PA and the Maclay Regional in Westbrook, CT.  These are the 2 most prestigious equitation finals for junior riders in the United States and are a big accomplishment for Brittany and Blitz.

Classic News

The 16th annual Folly Farm Classic is rapidly approaching.  It will be held the weekend of October 4th and 5th.  In addition to our usual Classic Classes, this year we have added an Extreme Equitation on the Flat class.  This should be a fun and exciting addition to our Classic!  Also if you haven’t already, it’s not too late to reserve your table under the VIP tent.  Watch the boards in the barn for more news about this year’s classic.

IEA Team

The Folly Farm Interscholastic Equestrian Association (IEA) Team is gearing up for a new year. Sue and Becca welcome our returning riders, as well as a few new ones!  If you are interested in doing the IEA team, but haven't spoken with either of the coaches, time is running out! IEA rules mandate that all applications and waivers be in their office as early as 4 weeks before the first show you go to. IEA is a great opportunity to challenge yourself and can be worked around your show schedule. As a team, we require you attend at least 3 shows and the occasional team meeting. Also, this year we are teaming up with Woodstock Acres to host 2 IEA shows here at Folly.  The first show is scheduled for Nov.2, the second (tentatively) scheduled for March 8th. Every team member will be required to pitch in. See Sue or Becca ASAP so you don't miss out.

Important IEA dates
Sept. 10 - all IEA applications, fees and waivers due
Nov. 2 - Folly/Woodstock Acres IEA Show
Regionals - March 28-29
Zones - April 4 – 5
NATIONALS April 30 - May 3, Lake Erie College, Painesville, OH

Workouts Return

We will be resuming the popular and fun workouts on Saturday mornings at 10:00 A.M.  For those who were unable to attend this summer, this is a great opportunity to develop core strength and flexibility.  The first session will be September 20th.  For more information please talk to Cara.
